Morganton NC is the county seat of Burke County and a larger city in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in NC. A place steeped in history, Morganton North Carolina is a part of the larger Hickory-Lenoir area and, recently, an archeological discovery has given it much recognition. Present-day Morganton is near an old Indian colony, Joara, and perhaps the first European settlement in the interior of the United States at what has come to be known as Fort San Juan (circa 1567).
