Little Switzerland

One of few historic resort areas found along the Blue Ridge Parkway, Little Switzerland NC is situated right off the Blue Ridge Parkway NC on Highway NC 226A; it is just south of Spruce Pine NC and exit 334 off the Blue Ridge Parkway. A renowned summer vacation area, elevations in Little Switzerland North Carolina range from 4,000 feet atop Grassy's summit where you can see Mt. Mitchell and other infamous peaks in the distance, to 3,200 feet in the downtown area below. This tiny little village was named for its rocky outcroppings and lush green forests that reminded visitors of the Jura Mountains in the Swiss Alps. Conveniently found only an hour away from Asheville, Little Switzerland NC is a neat little area that many visitors flock to every year. In the past we have displayed a Little Switzerland Cam, and we hope to get something up in this beautiful mountainous area soon! We do, however, showcase a Spruce Pine Cam.

Little Switzerland, like Spruce Pine NC, is a well known NC Gem Mining area and this vacation activity, along with NC Hiking and Mountain Biking NC, is popular along the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina. A four-season vacation destination, Little Switzerland receives a fair amount of snowfall in the winter, is well-known for its autumn scenes, filled with gorgeous wildflowers in the spring, and its cool summer temperatures.

People love to visit Little Switzerland NC to getaway and enjoy the fun vacation activities that abound nearby. Also, the quaint Little Switzerland restaurants and cafés, Little Switzerland Lodging, and Little Switzerland Inn are great, as well. Little Switzerland North Carolina is very close to Lake James NC, Morganton North Carolina, Spruce Pine NC, Burnsville North Carolina, and Black Mountain.
