Located at the base of Mt. Mitchell NC, the adorable small town has lots of special qualities. Many people like to enjoy Burnsville NC as it is located right outside of Mt. Mitchell, and can be considered the mountain's base of operations. Mt Mitchell is the highest peak in the Appalachian Mountains and the highest peak in eastern North America if you do not include certain island summits. It is located about 32 miles away from Asheville NC and includes Mount Mitchell State Park.
